BTV file is an AppleTalk Desktop Database. AppleTalk is a proprietary suite of networking protocols developed by Apple Inc. for their Mac computers. The AppleTalk Filing Protocol requires that each server maintain a desktop database containing information associating files with icons and documents with applications. The Finder uses the desktop database to build the familiar Macintosh graphical user interface. The desktop database is stored in two files: ICON.BTV and APPL.BTV.
