.smd - Sega Genesis ROM
The SMD data files are related to Kega. The SMD file is a Sega Genesis ROM (SUPER MAGICDRIVE) Image. The SMD format is a Genesis ROM format which must be decoded to be manipulated as normal Genesis cartridge data. SMD files consist of a series of 16KB blocks of data with their odd bytes at the beginning, and even bytes at the end. The Kega seems to be no longer supported.

To avoid this error, you need to set the file association correctly.
- Open Control Panel > Control Panel Home > Default Programs > Set Associations.
- Select a file type in the list and click Change Program.
